The Minister for Agriculture, Food, and the Marine, Martin Heydon, has launched the 4th All-Island Bioeconomy Summit which will be held on the 13th May in Johnstown Estate, Enfield, Co. Meath and is expected to welcome over 200 delegates.

The Bioeconomy Summit event, in association with InterTradeIreland, BiOrbic Research Ireland Centre for Bioeconomy, Irish Bioeconomy Foundation, Gas Networks Ireland and Foster Environmental, will allow key stakeholder and networks of the bioeconomy - those concerned with ensuring a sustainable bio-based economy for Ireland - to meet and focus on areas such as blue bioeconomy and replacing fossil fuel products with new bio-based products.
Minister Heydon said: "Replacing fossil-based products with alternative biobased products will create opportunities for agriculture, forestry, and the entire food system. This is what the bioeconomy is all about, enabling the creation of new value streams, valorisation of farm residues whilst strengthening the role of primary producers in the value chain and generating new jobs in the rural areas.
"An essential part of our coordinated approach is consulting with stakeholders including industry and the All-Island Bioeconomy Summit is a very important event to continue to do so’. There will also be an inaugural Bioeconomy Awards."
NCI is named in the National Bioeconomy Plan 2023-2025 under one of the key actions under the Nature & Climate Pillar, to help "develop an agreed approach to Natural Capital Accounting" to help "measure changes in the stocks and flows of natural capital at a variety of scales, for better management of nature and biodiversity".
